We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Medical Billing Trainer to join our growing healthcare operations team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering training programs for new and existing medical billing staff. This position requires deep industry knowledge, strong instructional abilities, and a passion for continuous improvement in revenue cycle processes.
As a trainer, you will play a key role in equipping team members with the skills needed to accurately process claims, ensure compliance, and maximize revenue integrity across various specialties and payers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive training modules on U.S. medical billing procedures, payer guidelines, and revenue cycle workflows.
- Train new hires and upskill existing billing staff on CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS coding, EDI, ERA, AR follow-ups, and denial management.
- Conduct live and recorded training sessions (virtual or in-person) with assessments to gauge competency and retention.
- Monitor and evaluate trainee performance through quizzes, role-play, and quality audits.
- Create and maintain SOPs, user guides, training manuals, and documentation tailored to the company’s workflows and compliance standards.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in payer policies, CMS guidelines, and coding updates to revise training content accordingly.
- Collaborate closely with QA teams, Billing Leads, and Operations Managers to identify skill gaps and recommend targeted training interventions.
- Support onboarding of billing software, EMR/EHR tools, and system upgrades through effective knowledge transfer.
- Provide feedback and mentorship to help employees build confidence, accuracy, and speed in billing tasks.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 4–5 years of hands-on experience in U.S. medical billing, coding, or revenue cycle management.
- Proven experience as a trainer, mentor, team lead, or supervisor in a healthcare setting is highly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS coding systems, claim lifecycle, insurance verification, and denial resolution.
- Strong understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer billing requirements.
- Experience working with billing software such as Kareo, Athenahealth, NextGen, AdvancedMD, or similar platforms.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical processes clearly and confidently.
- Proficiency in using tools like Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and Learning Management Systems (LMS).
- Certification in medical billing and coding (e.g., CPC, CPB, CMRS) is a strong plus.
